Implenia awarded two major civil engineering contracts in German-speaking Switzerland | Improvements to motorway junction with extensive noise protection in Zurich | Complex new bridge in Winterthur | Contracts worth around CHF 100 million

Glattpark (Opfikon), 21 June 2023 – Implenia has won two large and complex civil engineering contracts in Zurich and Winterthur. The contracts are together worth around CHF 100 million.

Improvement to motorway junction and comprehensive noise protection in Zurich-Grünau
The Swiss Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) has awarded Implenia the contract for the main works to improve the “N01/36 Schlieren-Europabrücke” motorway junction in Zurich-Grünau. Starting in autumn 2023, Implenia’s work will include refurbishing the lanes between the Schlieren and Altstetten junctions. In preparation for this, it will carry out extensive demolition, excavation and utility work, as well as building a road waste water treatment plant (SABA). Once the project is completed in 2027, 3,800 m2 of abatement walls will protect residents of Grünau from traffic noise. The refurbishment of this section of the motorway will also enhance the local physical environment. The successful tender is subject to a 20-day appeal period.

Complex new bridge to connect the Neuhegi-Grüze district in Winterthur
The Neuhegi-Grüze district area plays an important role in the ongoing development of Winterthur. Implenia has been asked by the city authorities to build a challenging 390 m bridge for pedestrians, cyclists and buses that will improve the new district’s public transport connections. The “Grüze Crossing” links Sulzerallee to St. Gallerstrasse. The central transport hub will serve the two middle platforms as well the planned new “Grüze Nord” S-Bahn station. Implenia (80% share) is leading the project in a joint venture with local partner Landolt AG (20%) from August 2023. The work includes special foundations and protective structures, various civil engineering jobs around the tracks, and complex scaffolding structures. The bridge is scheduled to open in 2026.
